FIRE SERVICE BASIC ELECTRICAL COURSE

2 Days: Classroom & Practical

This two-day course is a combination of classroom and hands-on training where students are taught electrical theory, basic residential electrical installation, identification of hazardous electrical conditions, and finally determining cause of electrical failure. Course is taught by a licensed electrician and training is based on the current National Electric Codes. Upon completion of this course students will receive 16 hours of Virginia Department of Fire Programs CEUs.

Curriculum Outline

Day One: Basic Electrician

  • Course introduction
  • Proper electrician tool usage
  • Electrical theory
  • Practical residential installation
    • electrical panel box and breakers
    • branch circuits
    • outlet, light fixtures
    • single pole and three-way switch

Day Two – Morning:  Basic Electrical Inspection

  • Application of Underwriters Laboratory Online Manual
  • Most common residential and commercial violations
  • Practical exercises identifying code violations on BEI’s 16’ commercial and residential electrical training wall.

Day Two – Afternoon: Basic Electrical Investigation

  • Most common residential and commercial electrical failures
  • Practical exercises identifying cause of electrical failure on BEI’s 16’ commercial and residential electrical training wall.
